Wildflower Walk
April 19 10am-12pm
Join one of the Center's educators on a search for Spring ephemeral wildflowers! Ephemerals are plants that emerge quickly in the Spring and disappear equally as so. While it's hard to say exactly what will be blooming at the time, we'll learn about wildflower phenology (seasonal progression), how to identify the species that we find emerging, and their importance to their ecosystem. This walk will be presented in two parts: the first half will take place on Ned Smith Center lands and for the second half, we'll head down to the trail at Dauphin County's Wiconisco Park to see what we can find there as well. We'll meet in front of the Gift Shop and Galleries entrance.
Note: due to the location of certain wildflowers and what is blooming, this walk could cover between 1.5-2 miles of walking distance over a slight grade.
